He has produced music with and for many talented artists. He is the host of the weekly MIXTAPE SHOW on David Marsden's NYthespirit.com. ----- Benjamin Russell - Short Bio (from my website Home page) A Canadian singer-songwriter, painter from Saskatoon, now living in Montreal, I am known for my hit single, MIRACLE, for which I was nominated, "Most Promising Male Vocalist", in the 80s. I have released many albums, singles and videos, and have shown my paintings in exhibitions. ----- Longer Bio (from my website About page) I am a multi-genre singer-songwriter, painter, writer and graphic artist (I design all my album covers), originally from Saskatoon, a small city in Saskatchewan, a prairie province in western Canada. I now live in Montreal, Quebec. My partner in life and art is Elyce. I was nominated, "Most Promising Male Vocalist", in the 80s for my hit single, "Miracle (Miracle of Love)". I have released many albums, singles and videos. My songs are wide-ranging in style and hard to pin down, with influences from folk to punk, from rock to jazz and classical. I've even made a country album, HALF TON TRUCK. I have a couple of other personas at the extreme ends of my creative spectrum: RIVER OF STONE (acoustic/folk-style), and GURU GROAN (aggressive electronic dance). I come from an era when it was normal for artists to go where their creativity led them, so I offer no excuse. I may not be as famous as some of my influences, but I believe I deserve the creative latitude allowed The Clash, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Adele and Kanye West. In 2008, at one of my lowest points, I had the dream which started me painting. I described it to Elyce as being in "water colour hues". She surprised me by giving me the gift of my first paints. My watercolour and gouache paintings have been exhibited and sold in art shows. I've realized lately that I'm also a poet, and I've begun creating Instagram posts with excerpts of poems and lyrics. ---- LYRICS (by Benjamin Russell and Elyce) Touch me! The shadows flicker by the light of television There's someone on the news who says we're heading for collision I change the channel with the touch of a button Hey, that's all they gotta do to blow us all to nothing Back at the station they try another shot Now that's a better angle, you can see what they got You can get most anything if the price is right But how can we enjoy it if we're so uptight Baby! Give it to me straight Shake me, wake me baby, before it's too late Save me! I'm starting to slide Open up this heart of mine and touch me inside A lonely child of the video generation Living in the future, got no anticipation A million people living in my block And we all think we're something but it's just a lot of talk Baby! I'm counting on you Shake me, wake me baby, tell me it isn't true Save me! I'm starting to slide Open up this heart of mine and touch me inside I feel like a droid in Bladerunner, a robot in Star Wars, Mr. Spock The shadows flicker by the light of television There's someone on the news who says we're heading for collision I change the channel with the touch of a button Hey, that's all they gotta do to blow us all to nothing Baby! Give it to me straight Shake me, wake me baby, before it's too late Save me! I'm starting to slide Open up this heart of mine and touch me inside Baby! I'm counting on you Shake me, wake me baby, tell me it isn't true Save me! I'm starting to slide Open up this heart of mine and touch me inside -----
